Tuning into Teens

At the Therapy Hub we offer Tuning in to Teens™ ONLINE and face to face out of our office in Footscray.

This highly sought-after, evidence-based parenting program is for dads, mums and carers of adolescents for parents of 12-18 year olds!

Worried they will go “off the rails”? , or maybe you feel disconnected from them?

Tuning in to Teens™ shows you how to help your teen develop emotional intelligence.

Would you like to learn how to:

  • be better at understanding and talking with your child through this important developmental phase?
  • help your teen learn to manage their emotions?
  • help to prevent behaviour problems in your teen?
  • teach your teen how to deal with conflict?

Backed by evidence-based research, the program focuses on developing key skills in recognising and responding to your teen’s emotions, conflict management, and helping your teen develop emotional intelligence.

Testimonials

‘’ I wanted to understand what other families were going through and what they were experiencing. From Tuning into Teens I’ve learned to be more patient, to listen, and to look for emotion. To ‘name it’, ‘tame it’ and that the ‘feeling is fine’.”

Testimonials

‘’ I decided to participate in a Tuning into Teens course to help with new behaviours that were presenting and uncertainty around how to respond/ where to begin with my sensitive eldest child. I learnt to recognise anger expressed as many different behaviours. As well as the anger iceberg! ‘’ Kate

Testimonials

‘’I was struggling with heightened tensions and anxiety in my twin sons as they were approaching their teens. From participating in Tuning into Teens I am now taking more notice of how I respond to their emotions, and learning how to best engage to help them understand their own emotions.’’

Andrew

Testimonials

‘’I wanted help with connecting with my son and his inability to express his emotions. As a result of participating in this program I listen more, I don’t react as quickly or judge. I seem to be able to calm the situation. I have learnt some interesting triggers I was not aware of. It’s very liberating!’’

Tuning into Teens shows you how to help your teen develop emotional intelligence. Adolescents with higher emotional intelligence:

Are more aware, assertive and strong in situations of peer pressure

Are more able to cope when upset or angry

Have more stable and satisfying relationships as adults

Have greater career success

Have greater success with making friends and are more able to manage conflict with peers

Have fewer mental health and substance abuse difficulties

Emotional intelligence may be a better predictor of academic and career success than IQ!

The program will teach you how to manage your own and your adolescent’s emotions in ways that help you to remain close and keep communicating. By learning these skills, you are less likely to have as much conflict within your family and your teen is more likely to talk to you about the challenging issues they face. These are factors that have been found to reduce the risk of mental health and substance abuse problems.

The online program with me is replicated as much as possible as if we are in the same room but you can join us from the comfort of your own home, free from having to travel or organise babysitters and you can participate with your partner as well!

It aims to help you and your adolescent manage the many emotional challenges of this stage of life. Tuning in to Teens™ is a six-week parenting program run one day/evening a week for two hours. The program will teach you how to manage your own and your adolescent’s emotions in ways that help you to remain close and keep communicating. By learning these skills, you are less likely to have as much conflict within your family and your teen is more likely to talk to you about the challenging issues they face.
