Hi, I’m Tham,
I’m a qualified Clinical Family Therapist and Social Worker who is passionate about supporting individuals to make the changes they desire in their own lives and relationships and create a better understanding of themselves and others.
I use a person-centred approach to get to know you and help you explore obstacles and challenges that might get in the way of enjoying your relationships while also identifying your strengths to build on to achieve your goals. I take pride in providing a safe, open and non-judgemental space. I would describe myself as welcoming, kind, respectful and an active listener. I can build a quick rapport with clients. There is no ‘magic wand’ that works for everyone, but together, we can explore strategies and solutions that will enable you to reach your goals.
My experience includes but is not limited to working with individuals and families who are experiencing complex behavioural and emotional challenges that require mental health support; those who have drug/alcohol use currently or in the past; and I also have experience as a life story social worker working directly with children and young people in home-based care, supporting them to understand past events better and envision a more fulfilling future.
I work systemically with families and couples, focusing on relationship dynamics and supporting couples/families to navigate conflict, improve communication, and develop coping strategies to strengthen family/
relationship bonds.
I was born in Zimbabwe, grew up in the UK, and now live in Australia. Throughout my professional experiences in the United Kingdom and Australia, I have worked with people from diverse ethical and cultural backgrounds. I am a father to two young children who keep me active. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, hiking, going to the beach, and watching football (Soccer). I use he/him pronouns.
In addition to my clinical work, I also offer supervision to social workers, case managers and community practitioners. My approach is restorative and relational. This means I focus on the emotional experience and morale of the practitioner, not just the caseload, alongside practical skill building and competence development. Supervision with me is collaborative. It draws on Social Work theory to inform practice and creates space to develop new skills in a way that feels grounded and useful.
Who I work with:
Newly qualified social workers navigating the transition from student to practitioner
Social workers looking to expand their practice or explore new career directions
Social workers moving into management and practice leadership roles
Case managers and community practitioners working with complex presentations
What supervision with me looks like:
Restorative and relational, with attention to your emotional experience and morale
Skill building and competence development drawing on Social Work theory
A collaborative space that values both relational and knowledge based approaches
Room to work through cultural and racial dynamics that come up in your practice
One thing I feel strongly about is how cultural and racial dynamics show up in clinical work. You do not need to share your client’s identity or lived experience to hold space for their racial experiences. What matters is that you show up authentically and remember that your client chose to share that experience with you for a reason. I offer supervision that creates space to think through exactly that kind of complexity, including questions of social location, power and privilege and what it means to work well with Black and BIPOC clients.
If you are looking for supervision that is collaborative, knowledge informed and relationally grounded, I would love to hear from you.
MY AREAS OF INTEREST AND PASSION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Current/past drug and alcohol use
